Kodachrome Basin State Park: a jewel right in the Colorado Plateau
We were camping car and drive to Capitol saturated steam properties Reef, after reluctantly abandoned Bryce. We made a small step in this small park, often overlooked because it is not a State Park, and yet ...
Having a camper huge, 10 m long prevented us from exploring the most typical corners of the park: in fact, this park is famous not only for its beautiful colors but also and especially for its stone fireplaces . But these were located at the end of an unpaved, easily accessible with our rolling road home.
Several theories exist to explain the presence of these stone fireplaces: geysers of saturated waters would petrified or sediment deposits that have persisted to erosion in some areas. What is certain is that it was not good to walk where there are 65 million years.
The park owes its name to the fact that journalists of National Geographic magazine, saturated steam properties had discovered in the 1940s and came to shoot with film: Kodachrome Flat. Finally, it was not until several years later that the park had to take that name with the consent of Kodak.
Unable to exploring the most representative places of the site, we opted for a nice walk, from an accessible saturated steam properties location: Angels's Palace Trail, north of the park. A nice little loop that makes us see by far the stone fireplaces, but offered us magnificent views.
This park is located in a larger group called the Grand Staircase Escalante, a little away from Route 12. Located between Bryce Canyon and Capitol Reef, it can easily visit on the road.
The ride presented, Angel's Palace Trail is located north of the park, along the main road. It is nice with a slight elevation (150 feet: 50) but offers beautiful scenery with wide views of Bryce.
To see more closely the stone fireplaces better known as Sentinel, take on the right after the entrance, an unpaved road that takes you out of the way: Sentinel Trail. saturated steam properties For more info, I recommend saturated steam properties the excellent blog post: At the End of the Road ... who wrote this article just after I presented photos of the park on my Facebook page (may be taken aback by the that we did not have all the same views of the park: interesting to compare what we remember a trip ...).
